Because in the long run, it's a LOT easier to have the same program for 
both Windows and Linux than to try to use separate solutions.

What I really want to use is Stunnel, which creates an HTTPS tunnel for 
data, but it depends on something like 5-6 libraries and I am not a C 
programmer, don't know where to find all the sources, and am not sure I 
could compile all of them statically.  One person offered to do it, but 
I sent him the source on Sunday and haven't heard a word from him 
since.
