Howard,

If you're willing to run another application and you can have a decent guarentee that the home/work machines will be on when you need them, then Hamachi is exactly what you're looking for -- it creates a private, encrypted virtual LAN that connects all of the machines you choose together directly, which is -perfect- for what you're trying to do; I do the exact same thing -- a copy of VNC and Hamachi are running all the time on all of my computers. If you're interested, check it out at http://www.hamachi.cc. Be sure to grab the latest beta for the newest features and bug fixes.

Subject: firewall setup for different locations

I use zoneAlarm as a firewall. When I use my laptop at any of my offices I have different ip addresses (the router's external address) which I've configured zonealarm to put in their trusted zone. My worry is that when I'm away, say using my laptop in a hotel with wifi. How can I access my work or home computer then since i won't know the ip of thier router in advance and zonealarm will automatically reject it?

Thanks
Howie
