We are using VNC for Distance Learning and we sometimes have about 20
connection to one machine. Can anybody recommend the ideal machine (not too
pricey) that would be able to serve 20 people and eventually a few more?

Also, I was planning on putting a Windows based OS on this machine. Should I
go with XP Pro or XP Server?

If all the clients are view-only (e.g. when a teacher demonstrates
something to many students, then TightProjector might be a good thing to
try:

It uses "multicast" UDP packets to distribute screen data, so its
server-side performance does not depend on the number of viewers.
