Hi JJ,

It sounds like you're using an old VNC 3.3 series server - the VNC Viewer
3.3 for Java prompted for the password before attempting to connect to the
server.

If you upgrade to a VNC 4 series server, you should get more useful
diagnostic information on the reason for the failure.
