Bzip compression tends to be rather CPU intensive, and I think decompression is also relatively expensive, so while it makes sense for the extra gain in compression versus zlib for things like files, I'm not convinced you'll get good results for an interactive compressed stream. If it does turn out to work for VNC image data then let me know and I'll allocate you an encoding number to use.
