I have two system running Red Hat Enterprise 4 WS (2.6.9.55-ELsmp). I have XVnc, XDMCP, and Xinetd working through port 177 to allow VNC on a Windows-XP Professional SP 2 machine to remote connect to these two machines. For the most part it works, but from time to time it will fail and then start working again. When it fails, the failure for both machines is the same. On the Windows-XP machine I get the message: "The connection closed unexpectedly. Do you wish to attempt to reconnect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900?" Yes or No? Of course, cycling from level 5 to 1 and back to 5 clears up the problem. I'm also thinking restarting Xinetd will also clear up the issue but have yet to try it. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem and future solution? Thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and wisdom.
