Would someone help me with this problem by providing an idea of how to
address my desktop PC from The Internet.
I can always connect and remotely control my 2 desktops an one
(wirelessly connected) notebook, in all combinations (deskPC1 > deskPC2,
notebook > deskPC 2, etc. vice-versa...) INSIDE my little network crated
by a wire/wirelees router (Linksys WRT 54GL in this case).
But which address to use when demanding connection from my notebook VIA
THE INTERNET???
The problem is that my ISP provides me with a broadband connection in
form of LAN cable.
1. The access authorization is for my main desktop's network card's
MAC but I set the router to clone/simulate that MAC and all is well.
2. My IP is formally dynamic but services such as "What's MY IP?",
etc. tell me for months that my IP is (in their eyes) the same
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, except one site that gives me a quite different
(all 4 groups) address.
3. But I really do not know whether this is my REAL IP address, and
how can it be if it is seen as address of all my 3 PCs?
4. I do not quite know the topology of my Internet connection. All I
know is that there is a switch device running in a metal box on
the ground floor of my apartment building and then my Linksys
router from which run 2 LAN cable top my 2 desktops and wireless
"cable" to and from my notebook. Their addresses are,
conventionally, 192.168.1.2, 192.1.3, 192.168.1.4, while
the router is, of course, 192.168.1.1.
5. I know that the ground floor switch sees me (my router) as
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where the last 2 groups reflect my building's
street number and apartment number.
* So, can anybody tell me what should I type as any of my PC's
"Internet" address?
* Should I ask my ISP for help?
* Or just use a service such as DDNS? - which I would like to avoid
until I learn how to do it WITHOUT such service's assistance.
Any help will be much appreciated.
