Trace, Uninstalling VNC 4 just leaves your settings in the registry, which are not shared with old VNC 3 installations and so won't affect them. UltraVNC is based upon the old VNC 3 system, so it may well conflict with the standard VNC 3 server and more fundamentally it's not compatible with VNC.
The latest VNC Enterprise Edition release supports display of the try icon only while a connection is active, if required, or you could check out the VNC-based & VNC-compatible TightVNC project.
