Thank you for answering, Grant.

In my original message of Dec. 1, I explained that I can start the server from
the command line and the keyboard works fine.

Is anybody waiting to find out what happened after my news flash, yesterday;
the one where I wrote that the numeric keypad works?

I created a user with numeric name and password. Low and behold, the desktop
gets started and looks just exactly like it should as well as any applications
I have in the startup script. But the keyboard is still screwy. I even added
xmodmap with the corresponding keyboard which runs successfully but the
keyboard is still in the same shape.

Again, this is far superior to starting Xvnc from inetd; first and foremost
because it doesn't require any changes to the server code and secondly because
the server is not bound to one user.

Puzzled but progressing,
Carlyle
