Hi all

Morer than 1 client yes but ...

I have made tests to check how many clients a Win98 server can cope with
:
 The server is a 500Mhz 128Mb PC on Win98 16 bits colors and 1027X768
display
The display was a continuous powerpoint slide-show (1 picture each 20
seconds) of a scientific presentation with text, graphics, and sometimes
small animations.
There is also a smooth translation between pictures (!!!) .
All that is a very hard work for vnc which tries to reproduce the
transitions and animations as best as possible.
In two words : I think it is one of the worst cases ( but I think also
a good endurance test )

I know that VNC is not intended originally for that but we are testing
it for remote diffusion of seminars (sound is distributed another way !)
or to work together on same document across Europe.

The results are approximately :
4 clients give a very high cpu load on server
5 clients crash the server (I think it is rather win98 which crash !)
after a while
I repeat : it is a very hard and specific test.

I'm sure you noticed my bad English , I apologize ;)

On the other hand we have set up a Unix machine as a relay ( or proxy
or fan-out .... ) between clients and the same server with same
slide-show : the result is wonderful !!!
With an old 64 bits 175Mhz Digital server 6 clients gave a 75% cpu load
and still working fine ans smooth after 24 hours.
With a brain new COMPAQ ES40 2x 667Mhz the load generated by 8 clients
is neglectible and works fine and fast for days .

This test was with release 3.3.2 for Unix (the binary actually
downloadable)
I'll try to compile 3.3.3R2 soon to get new interesting options
(deferrupdate and alwaysshared ) , and test again .
If anybody is interested by the results ....

I'm new on this list and discovered VNC a few month ago : VNC is really
a marvel and I have also found this mailing list very friendly ( thanks
also to have installed tool to deep in this huge archive ).

Regards
