Yes, I killed xterms no longer accepting key strokes in the VNCThing's
window.

I will try this when it happens next time.  The problem is that this
doesn't happen all the time...

I'm not sure if I can try this, because 1) I usually use just vi, but not
emacs, and 2) I don't know when it happens.  Maybe I'll just keep running
emacs until I see this problem again.

I'll let you know when I have this problem again.
