Subject: RE: Bandwidth measure

I did some testing a couple of days ago, here are the results I got:

System:

Win32 Tridia VNC 1.2.2 with Tight Encoding Protocol
Windows NT Embedded
800 x 600 x 16bit display on server machine

results:

8bit display, Tight encoding 2Kb ? 3Kb per second
8bit display, Hexfile encoding 5Kb ? 6Kb per second
16bit display, Hexfile encoding 10Kb ? 12Kb per second
16bit display, Tight encoding 8Kb ? 10Kb per second

We also have to use the "Poll Full Screen" option, as there is a overlay
that does no get updated. If the "Poll Foreground" option is used then
bandwidth usage should be lower.

The other factor, is that the machinery running the VNC server, has very
little screen activity during normal use. Busy desktops will obviously use
up more bandwidth.
