Dair,
I tried installing CarbonLib 1.2, but the installer informed me that it
requires OS 8.6 or above. I'm running 8.1. So that's not gonna solve my
problem.
Have you had any success with this?

It'd be worth trying 1.2, which I think was released yesterday?
Although I'm not using any of the Carbon Event stuff yet, 1.2 has a
lot of bug fixes over the original 1.0.4 release.
