That would explain why there is only a check for "Yes" in the 
code... DOH! :-)

I think it is related to NT and the difference between user and 
system wallpaper. I've tested this and it seems to be the case (or 
at least it is on the NT 4 Sp6a PCs I've got at work).

That's it in a nutshell.....

I've altered the keys as you suggested, then stopped and restarted 
the service. But I'm still loosing the wallpaper. In case there's 
something lurking in the background, I've tried it again after a 
reboot.

The system doesn't kill the wallpaper on viewing, only when the 
remote user *stops* viewing. I think that's where the problem lies.

If you go into properties from the desktop, the wallpaper is still 
selected. However, for some reason, it's not being implemented - 
but I'm guessing, I'm not a programmer.
