Ok, I'm sorry if I'm rehashing old stuff, but I have searched the archives
and I can't find a solution to my problem. So, bear with me.
I have WinVNC server installed on my home computer (Win ME @home cable modem
service) and I was finally (after much wailing and knashing of teeth) able
to get it to connect (using the patch that lets both the viewer and the java
applet use the same port) through port 80 via internet from anywhere other
than from my work computer (which is and NT 4.0 machine behind a firewall).
Now when I try the viewer from work, it never even gets to the password
part. The window goes away as soon as I enter the IP address of my computer
and never comes back. I finally have to bring up task manager and kill the
process. When I try to connect via http(http://mycomputeripaddress:80) it
sits there until I finally get an error that says "java.io.EOFException".
Being as I can connect using a nonfirewalled computer through a regular
phone modem. I do not have access to the firewall settings nor do I want to
go to any of the network staff to have them open a port.
Now, I have done my research and I saw some patches or something and some
reference to an http tunnel of some sort, but most these patches require
some programing knowledge and compiling cababilities of which I have
niether.
Is there a quick and dirty method of getting the viewer to access my home
computer from here at work behind the firewall? Any help would be
appreciated as this has become a vendetta of mine. I am determined to get
this working. :-)
Thanks in advance,
Ron
