Hello all,
I am attempting to setup VNC for my home PC so I can access it from
work. I've run in to a bit of a wall though. I've read the FAQs and I
think I'm running in to a firewall problem perhaps. Anyway I thought
I'd post my scenario to see if anyone could give me a nudge in the
direction of a solution. Here is what I have...
At home
Windows 2000 Profesional
Running WinVNC 3.3.3r9 server as a service
At work
Irix 6.5.5m
Running viewer 3.3.3r2 freeware from SGI through Netscape 4.5
and
Windows 2000 Professional
Running WinVNC 3.3.3r9 viewer through IE 5.something
I can connect to <my ip>:5800 and I get the applet requesting a password
on my SGI and my Win2k box. When I input the password I receive
"java.net.SocketException: Invalid Argument" from my SGI and
"java.net.NoRouteToHostException:Operation Timed Out" from my Win2k box.
So I think the VNC server is running ok. I'm just running in to
problems somewhere in between, whether it be my Win2k box at home, my
cable providers ISP, or my work's firewall setup. Can anyone provide
hints for tracking down the problem?
Thanks,
Nate
