I have a system setup some thing like this...
First I started vncserver with the geometry and color depth of the
actual hardware and --alwaysshared.
Then I opended a raw X session and an xvncviewer connected to the vnc
display in full screen mode.
Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for, but it's as close as I
know how to get.
