Hello -- I just installed vnc on a couple of Redhat 7.1 boxes at work. Specifically, I installed the rpm avaialable from the Redhat rawhide site (3.3.3r2). I can start a server with no problems,
[aconley@computer1]$ vncserver New 'X' desktop is computer1.lbl.gov:1 Starting applications specified in /home/aconley/.vnc/xstartup Log file is /home/aconley/.vnc/computer1.lbl.gov:1.log but when I try to connect to that machine from another machine with vncviewer it says [aconley@computer2 ~]$ vncviewer computer1:1 vncviewer: VNC server closed connection and nothing happens. This is also the only information that the log contains. This is before I am asked for a password, and is the only output of any kind. I perused the FAQ and searched the mailing list archives and can't seem to find anything that quite matches. The socket is being created, and then appropriately destroyed when I use vncserver -kill. I've tried running as root in case there is some sort of permissions problem, but the exact same thing occurs. The name resolution is working correctly. Does anybody out there know what might be causing this? Or of a way to get vncserver to output slightly more useful information to the log?
