Hello,
I just installed VNC on WinME running on a Dell Inspiron8000
laptop, with Intel3 running at about 650MHz. I read the FAQ and
documentation, so I was expecting a bit of slowness, but I am
surprised that it....iiissss........SSSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW.
(I'm accessing a pretty fast solaris box). I put
Pixmaps { TitleHighlight "solid" }
in my .twmrc, but didn't quite follow the bit about
#define solid ....
:
:
static char ....
so I didn't do the "*bitmapFilePath" thing either.
I don't have scrollbars on my xterms, and the scrollbars on all the
othe applications are solid anyway (and gray looking). I want to
keep focus following the pointer. I have set the depth to 8, both
on the unix server invocation, and on the viewer options.
I am surprised that even with my nonideal setup, it is so tremendously
slow, so I think there is something wrong with my setup. Even moving
the pointer is so extremely slow, as well as even vi forward paging on
my xterm (at least several seconds delay). Could it have something to
do with using the server option "-nolisten local"? I had to do this to
avoid listening-type errors, since I didn't have root access privilege
to directories.
As a test, I connected to the unix box from another unix box, which
was lightening fast. The LAN here operates at 10Mbps, so I know
it isn't a bandwidth problem.
Thanks for any advice, even if it is to confirm that this degree of
slowness is to be expected.
