   You probably knew that already, but I still found this quote from the
   ABA president's inaugural address in 1924 of interest:

     In these days of so-called progressivism and advanced political
     economy, we find men in every community who jeer at that
     [Constitutional] Convention and belittle its work. They say . . .
     that the Constitution might have filled the need then, but is
     obsolete now. . . . These ignorant, unpatriotic unthinking
     disciples of communistic thought would tear down where they could
     not build. . . . They have never offered any constructive
     substitute, as indeed they could not, for while the Constitution
     may not be perfect, it at least has stood the test of nearly 150
     years. . . . [T]he Lilliputians of experimental schemes must not
     tear asunder what wise men have joined together.
