About 1,700 of Spain's 4,400 judges are going on strike, although they
will continue to process some particularly urgent matters. [1]Details
here (in Spanish, from the excellent web newspaper
ElDiarioExterior.com). The judges argue that they are underpaid and
overworked; they want 1,200 new positions to be created over next five
years, to move Spain closer to the European Union average, and to help
with what the judges say are overflowing dockets. Comments are welcome
from readers who know about the Spanish judiciary.
