Hrm. won't turn on? All of it? The VFD comes on but doesn't respond to input? The VFD is dark but you can talk via GPIB or serial?
Check the power supplies. Look for dead caps and regulators. If it's partially on, say vfd but doesn't respond, check the 5V rail. If no vfd, but GPIB or serial, check the VFD supply. Good luck!
