past few years, making similar feature suggestions to the one I made.

Uhh, I wasn't arguing against your feature request. I actually think it
has potential. I was merely pointing out another possibility, one that
wouldn't mangle the From header and annoy your customers.

Our workaround was in regards to issues with ETRN, which is not directly
apropos to this conversation. It was offered as an example in regards to
my feature suggestion, which you don't seem interested in.

No, you are right. That's what SMTP Auth is for. I misunderstood your
early comments, I guess. I thought you wanted to clearly identify
messages as originating from a particular account. I did not think you
were looking for half hearted attempt to block mail relaying. I thought
that's what the setting to "deny relay for non-local users" was and that
it was pretty much decided that that was a bad setting, giving server
administrators a false sense of security.
