For VOPMail the problem appears to occur whenever the message ends without a
linefeed before the ending "." You can confirm this by telneting to the SMTP
port and follow the examples in the SMTP RFC, it recreates the problem every
time. Most of our problems were with ugly spam, but a few were coming from a
specific mail client "The Bat".

Contact Vircom Support, they issued me a temporary fix a few weeks ago that
finally solved the issue.  I don't know when/if they plan on releasing an
"official patch".
