Howdy Vorts, Another " colorful" town in Texas, like Dime Box and North Zulch, is named Nada, which, in Spanish means nothing, or por nada meaning "for nothing". Nada was a rice farming town, but the winds of change kinda left the town resting on the side of the road. Towns are like industries. Someone has a dream and the imagination, energy and resources to develope, produce and market products and the talent to survive the ups and downs of life. However, dreams remain dreams, until they are endowed with feet.
GM is a type of Nada, people with dreams gained the feet to propel concepts into GM products. Focused leadership drove GM forward. What happened to GM?? The same thing that happened to Nada. The next generation of leadership failed to re-conceptualize the dream. Each year our own group of companies work on a new product, a dream product.. if you will. Most never grow feet.. but the dream is set forth. This next year, the task of motivating our people is nearing the impossible because of their IRA retirement losses. The situation is reaching a crisis stage in morale. The negatives are so great that even our management considers just throwing in the towel and letting the negatives win. The story goes that after Pearl Harbor, FDR called the nation's top industrialists to D.C. People including Henry Ford, Kaiser, Sloan, Bechtol , Brown and Root etc. FDR handed each a check with instructions to build something .. from ships to tanks. As he passed the checks, one recipient remarked.... " Mr. President, the amount is not filled out." FRD looked at Henry Ford, winked, and grabbed the check back and dismissed the recipient and remarked.. Henry, we can't win 'em all with a grin. The recipient asked what was so funny and Henry Ford said.. "son, it we don't win this war, the money's no good and if we do win, who cares how much it cost". With that said, what will happen to the dream called LENR ? Will it grow feet? Richard
