Hi Can anyone tell if there are any studies of electric and magnetic multipole in the atomic nucleus? For example the electric quadrupole. I am surprised that the Bethe-Weizsäcker formula<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethe-Weizs%C3%A4cker_formula> doesn't mention anything. Since electromagnetic radiation is being emitted from the nucleus in the form of gamma radiation there must be some very special conditions in the nucleus. The often repeated results that charged matter alter their decay rate is also something which requires the electrodynamic properties of the nucleus to be investigated.
