He has come full circle. He is now a born-again EV kinda guy, but it was not always that way for Bob Lutz. Plus, Via has picked up the "revisionist" history of the Volt. Even after GM spent millions trying to rewrite history through PR releases - in an effort to show that Lutz was a "hero" behind the Volt instead of the villain who kept it off the road for 8 years, the truth is out there. LOL ! Nothing could be further from reality than GM's revisionist tactics. For his tireless efforts against the Prius, Lutz was labeled by the tree-huggers as "Lutz-the-Putz." That is how environmentalist saw him 10 years ago - but things change, and to his credit, he somehow "got religion" and saw the EV light and pushed the Volt ahead a decade after the Prius introduction. BTW - Lutz's real legacy at GM was promoting enormous gas guzzlers, especially the Hummer - and becoming a laughing stock in the auto world for predicting over-and-over again circa 2002 - the soon-to-be failure of the Prius. Get this, he was promoted by GM after those years of negative EV comments, and despite of the Prius becoming the greatest advancement in automotive engineering in fifty years. Had GM demoted Lutz instead, back when he was strongly pushing the gas-guzzler SUV line (epitomized in the Hummer, Suburban, Yukon, Escalade etc. which are his real legacy) - GM could possibly have avoided bankruptcy and not fallen at Toyotas feet as the major force in automotive technology. Problem is: those cars were money makers and that fact often blinds one (the greedy) to future changes which are easily predicted by others. Essential, this guy took down GM. Oh well... Peter Principle at work. Instead of firing, he was promoted. Now, born again - he is Chairman of an electric vehicle company. Apparently he has reformed, but can he really rewrite history through press release? What about GM? Can they regain their past luster. I'd like to think so. They still make decent cars but can they push the envelope? What at the chances that they can drop a lot of baggage and be the first to embrace LENR?
