A few people have suggested this might be a problem with cold fusion in heat after death mode. Mizuno did, in fact, have difficulty quenching a reaction once. But we have similar difficulties with conventional energy systems. You cannot "turn off" (extinguish) a pile of burning coal. After you SCRAM a fission reactor it remains hot and radioactive for a long time.

I have heard that some of these machines are supposedly started by manually giving them a spin (an external mechanical push). So I suppose you would stop one by stalling it, which is the opposite of giving it a spin. Or maybe you would have to pull the magnets some distance away from the rotor.
