Good question! "Serious" mountain ranges in outback Australia are rare, and most are indeed part of one national park or another. Finding one that is also relatively close to a major power consumer is even more difficult. However the Hamersley and Opthalmia ranges in Western Australia should make a good target, since they contain Australia's primary iron ore mines. The mines themselves should make willing customers for the power produced, and might even be convinced to share in the cost of construction.
