I've been thinking of building one of these to play with as it
seems to be a pretty straight forward apparatus and it operates
at 0.1 atm ~ 80 Torr which is a pressure that is easy to obtain
with my hobby level equipment. Naudin has also made the plans
available on his site. It would be nice to not have to sputter
coat the inside of the chamber with W though.
Excellent ! especially insofar as recently - this MAHG experiment
seems to be generating some wider interest and some original
thinking.
I was thinking of using microwaves A'la Mills instead of the W
cathode to split the H2 but if the EVO hypothesis is correct
then that's not such a good idea.
The EVO possibility is intriguing, but not that likely, due to the
high pressure fill. I will have to write to Ken about that.
The microwave approach is one thing I was considering also, since
as I said in a previous post - getting a **proton specific**
energy input could be beneficial in a cold plasma. i.e. 21 cm or
1420 Mhz. Also a resonant structure is easy to build in these
dimensions.
Plus the big...no HUGE advantage is that if microwaves are found
to give you the same level of OU heat, then the the
heat-to-electric conversion is simpler than with this than with
any other way. More on that later.
I suspect that you can rig up a normal cannabalized magnetron from
an oven to go this low in frequency (normally they are 2.45 Ghz)
by using lower input voltage.
I hope you will try this, Ron. Feel free to write me off-line if
you do get going on this.
And - on a more general note. Is there a big increase in interest
in OU experimentation of all kinds these days, or what?
This could be just a personal perpective, but it is almost seems
like there is "something in the air" in the summer of '05 ... is
it a meme?
... and it goes beyond just the belated realization that
"necessity is the mother of invention." and if we don't do
something soon, our great economy is going down the tubes faster
than a leaking barrel of crude...
Don't fall prey to the notion that only the national labs can do
this kind of stuff. The internet has the effect of leveling the
playing field to some degree. Winning the lottery would help, even
more, however....
