Remember, Vortex has no real rules besides "no sneering," and that has
consequences. People on vortex seem to want those consequences, otherwise
I long ago would have added a "no flamewars" rule as well as rules
entirely banning OT messages such as religion and politics.

Occasional off-topic messages aren't a problem, but OT discussions belong
on vortexB-L. And since vortex is a self-maintaining community, the usual
route is for users to object loudly in public to any subscribers who post
*continuing* streams of off-topic messages.

On the other hand, we have a "no spammer" rule. I see unsolicited
advertisements as abhorrant, and I'll happily remove any "salemen" who
apparantly joined vortex in order to push any sort of "product." Or maybe
I should extend that no-spam rule to include a ban on all other types of
slimy advertisements? Messages containing either religious or political
prosthletyzing for example?
