I know, it's not right! Anything classified as fuel and Customs and Excise
will come down on you like a ton of lead. Customs and Excise in this country
dates back 2000 years to the Roman occupation. It is an antiquated body
sometimes with more power than the police! *You do not* want to mess with
them!

I know someone who runs his second hand diesel on cooking oil from 
the local Tesco. He swears it runs more smoothly than on conventional
diesel. He tells me that quite a few people run their cars on used 
cooking oil from the local chippy. The only problem there is the 
used stuff pongs a bit and is likely to attract attention from the 
fuzz.
