But not smarter than Joule or Thompson. Anyway, they did not go to school much so it is not a fair comparison. Joule had only two years of formal education starting at age 16. Thompson is somewhat overrated. He attended an elementary school starting at age 10. It was on the Glasgow University campus. This gave rise to the myth that he attended college at age 10. He did not become a full professor until he was 21.
