When I was in the 5th grade in the early 1960's my teacher Mrs. Biggis said, "The men at the Cambria Iron Works used to work long hours. They had to get dressed up in their Sunday best to pick up there pay check. The union fought for a 40 hour work week at Bethlehem Steel and got it. When you grow up you will need to work 30 a hours a week in the mill."
Today there is no Bethlehem Steel. A good fraction of the residents in Johnstown PA are on government assistance. The ones that are working are working longer than 40 hours making non-living wages. It did not turn out as expected. Frank Znidarsic
