Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, my childhood was
spent in the years B.T. (Before Tele) and so I am
blissfully unaware of things like Klingons.

As for Kleenex, we didn't even have bog rolls during the war.
I remember many an afternoon spent tearing up newspaper into
appropriate sized pieces to fit the Kudos soap flakes box.
The Daily Express was best. The Times was a bit too harsh
on delicate skin. <g>

Instead of TV we had comics, such as the Wizard, Hotspur and
Adventure. Posher boys than me read the Boys Own Paper - but
that was rather boring by the 1940s. I must admit I did enjoy
some of the older BOP Annuals though - encyclopaedic sized
volumes that one could buy in second hand book shops.

As for Superman, that was only seen on the very rare occasions
that my Pilot Officer brother brought home one of those
voluminous American publications - The huge contrast with our
single sheet press was a grim reminder of just how poor Britain
had become in the defence of freedom. (# sound of violins #)
