There seems to be 3 or more different spectra of waves which interact with magnons, despite vastly different wavelengths - light - heat - ultrasound. In fact, the magnon is simply another collective excitation, like a phonon or a plasmon - which seems to be capable of amalgamating what is for lack of a better term: "noise" into a more coherent state. The common denominator is a pattern of atomic displacements away from equilibrium positions in ferromagnetic compounds which reinforce each other resonantly - despite the large variation in wavelength. No doubt that de Broglie matter waves and four-vector space is involved in this, but that is beyond my pay-grade...
