There are many fine papers from the late John Dash on the LENR-CANR site, but this one is not although others cover the same territory. It highlights the biggest mystery of LENR, which is partial reproducibility (lack of 100% reproducibility). Quote: "it was found that 12 of 21 [titanium cells] gave statistically significant excess heat."
http://www.dtic.mil/get-tr-doc/pdf?AD=ADA390175 This document from 1991 is free on the DTIC website: "Changes in the isotopic ratios for titanium after electrolysis in heavy water, obtained by ICPMS, are shown in Fig.2. This shows that the ratios of 50Ti to each of the other stable isotopes is reduced after electrolysis by amounts ranging from 4 to 13%, which is an average over the bulk of the cathode . We realize that our claim of changes in isotopic ratios is extraordinary. Therefore, we have preserved our samples so that our results can be checked by any independent laboratory." Why would 50Ti be active ? Well it is the heaviest isotope of element 22, having 28 neutrons, which is a magic number but yet - this appears to be the active isotope. A great mystery.
