The Japanese government finally decided to scrap the Monju breeder reactor.
The project has been underway since 1986. It has been plagued with problems
such as sodium leaks and fires. It ended up costing about $9 billion. The
government has been going back and forth on the decision to close it, but I
think this time they mean it.
