Just a guess Robin, but one can stop a 60mph car/truck and get out of harm's way a bit faster than an airplane going 500+mph at 30000 ft! :-) And the heat burning thru the skin of the vehicle. They now have specialized containers on aircraft which will withstand the heat from failing Li battery... -mark

If that's the case, then perhaps the higher level of cosmic radiation at altitude is the immediate cause of failure of Li batteries transported by air??
