In the neglected but provocative paper entitled “Anomalous Heat Generation
during Hydrogenation of Carbon (Phenanthrene)” by T. Mizuno - he states:
“When phenanthrene (a heavy oil fraction) is subjected to high pressure and
heat in a reactor with a metal catalyzer, it produces a markedly anomalous
reaction. It produces excess heat and weak radiation... Furthermore, after the
reaction finishes, mass spectroscopy reveals what appears to be 13-C. It is
very difficult to explain the total energy generation as a conventional
chemical reaction.” END
The paper was presented 10 years ago, and promptly dismissed as impossible… but
Holmlid may have already discovered the correct interpretation of the results
even if no one took notice back then (or now). When hydrogen is densified
catalytically – which would be expected under the Mizuno parameters, (or and in
the million year process of coal formation) - it becomes dense enough so that a
tiny amount will bind to carbon inside the normal valence orbit. Thus, the
combination would present a tight molecule of supposed AMU 13 which would not
be broken by normal ionization in a mass spectrometer (although other electrons
would ionize). Thus, the molecule would appear as an atom of 13C when it was
really 12C plus UDH, tightly bound.
Lattice Energy (Widom/Larsen) made a big deal out of a (mis)interpretation of
Mizuno, and produced many nice slides trying to explain how this effect could
lead to “clean coal” LOL. They call their coal tech “CLENRs” … and maybe Rick
Perry will buy into it, as it certainly is politically expedient these days to
try to revive the coal industry. Rick seems to always get the last laugh at the
expense of Libs.
Carbon is known to undergo “sp3 Hybridization” in its valence electrons which
answers the mystery of the surprisingly strong bonding of hydrogen in Methane;
but a different and related type of 3p orbital hybridization could essentially
“hide” an atom of UDH … which is bound deeply at hundreds of eV – plus, this
alternative explanation extends to the identity of so-called “magnetic carbon”.
It is the same “13C” of Mizuno.
In fact, if coal did not contain and over abundance of iron oxide already it
might be possible to harvest the small amount of natural UDH from crushed coal
using magnetic separation. Actually it could be possible anyway. The UDH would
have been created by the iron oxide itself – which is Holmlid’s catalyst.
It may be premature to give up on the goal of clean coal… especially if in the
process of cleaning it - we could harvest natural UDH in the form of 13C, which
would have a high enough value as a rocket propellant, for instance, to pay for
the cleaning… 😊
