Thanks Michel.

That being the case, would a Pd "soft ion membrane" act as
a deuteron accelerator if hooked something like 
this with 5.0 millimeter spacing, (E = 10e7 volts/meter) or so?
                              D2 gas in grounded can
           + 50 KV ------------------------Pd  membrane
                            vacuum
