Interesting development. I'm book-marking the site.

The company page states:

-----------------------------------------------------
* 2-seater roadster configuration

* Soft-top standard, optional hard top

* Tesla-designed 3-phase, 4-pole AC induction motor, rated at 248hp, max torque
at 0 rpm; redline at 13,500 rpm

* Costs about a penny per mile to drive, assuming a time-of-use meter and
off-peak charging (about 2 pennies per mile otherwise)

* Zero emissions
-----------------------------------------------------

I gather this prototype should not be considered a typical American family car.
It's a "2-seater."

I would speculate that if Tesla Motors would scale up and make a version big
(and heavy) enough to handle four to five individuals, let's say the size of an
Escort Station Wagon, those impressive ratings would drop to around 70 miles
mpg equivalent, 120 miles per charge.

Even so, it's still impressive.

Would anyone like to dispute my admittedly off-the-cuff calculations? I'd love
to be proven wrong. ;-)
