I can now see that under the 36,000 atmosphere 
pressure on water implicit in the PV^6 = constant 
relation two molecules of oxygen dihydride 
(aka H2O) undergo a phase change to one molecule 
of oxygen trihydride and one molecule of oxygen
monohydride. 

     2[OH2]   ->  OH3  +  OH  

The diamond like OH3 tetrahedrons are the 
SOLID PHASE in compression (positive strain 
energy and the OH molecules are the FLUID PHASE 
in balancing tension (negative strain energy).

In short water is full of what one might call 
diamond ice. 

But is there among the eleven known forms of 
ice an ice which fits the bill.

Yes there is. It's ICE VIII

which has a density "of about 1.66 g cm-3" 
and explains the anomalous density of 
water. Also it is formed under a pressure 
of 80 thousand atmospheres which is in the 
same ball park as the PV^6 = a constant 
relationship.

What one has to realise is that as one 
goes down is size, one can get increasingly 
large strain energy differentials, not only 
in solids, but also in liquids. 

The above oxygen hydride equation is just 
one such example at a scale slightly larger 
than the  OH2 -> OH + H  scale.

Anyway, Jones should be happy cos it looks 
as though his ICE engine will be running 
on ICE after all.  8-)
