Since the mid 18th century, physicists have glorified Nature as an efficient
user of energy. (The surface of a soap bubble as an area of minimum energy
is a prime example of this way of thinking about Nature.)

Taking away Nature's crown of energy efficiency will rock the conceptual
foundations of physics.
