Incidentally, it's legitimate to use magnetic monopoles to analyze
something like this, as long as you keep in mind that you can't just go
down to the store and buy a box of them. They don't change the theory
in any important way, the field of a dipole is the same as the field of
two closely spaced monopoles, and the actions of monopoles are a lot
simpler to visualize and understand than the actions of a bunch of dipoles.
FWIW I liked the "ICW" generator on that page, too. Took a while to
figure out why it's "Can't" rather than "Can". :-)
