More later, but let me say that even when adsorbed, oxygen is certainly
not ionic -- yet ... since the valency is rather unique with this atom,
the forthcoming argument that a "virtual O++ ion" is always available
when oxygen is adsorbed into Palladium, will be have to wait.

Interesting use of the word " virtual". Or another view may consider that of all the elements.. Oxygen may be "two' elements. Call one virtual, negative, psuedo, imaginary or whatever.. oxygen does not play by anybody's rules. Unless... hmmm.. there is an element so similar that it masquerades as oxygen.. yep! that sounds so dumb that not even a drunk at the Dime Box saloon would consider the suggestion worthy.. but.. ( Richard and his buts),while thinking outside the realm of "established physics culture" we can assign a mathematical value to a psuedo oxygen and allow the value to engage in discourse while fabricating a virtual equation.
