There are always transient free protons in water, if you slow down the clock (relative time dimension) to a pace where they can be seen.
As for the haloes ... hmmm ... one can assume you wished to give the implication that they are virtual and not real, OR else that a free electron would be depicted as not being point particle but a larger less dense species. Not sure, really. Care to elaborate?
