I hope that everyone interested in this subject will make an effort to obtain the filament from any such incident, and at least take a measurement with a sensitive GM monitor. A good and affordable choice for such an instrument is the Aware Electronics RM-60 or equivalent, and used with an old laptop to provide data logging. http://www.aw-el.com/page4.htm This setup should be sensitive enough to make a reliable determination of most putative nuclear transmutations, such as in a tungsten filament. It will measure the radioactivity in bananas, for instance, which have a small amount of 40K. Jones
