One further thought on the natural "macro" implementation of this
cross-field phenomenon on Planet Earth. With emphasis on the "larger
Vortex."
And this also provides surprising proof (kind-of) ! Read on.
The blanket of atmosphere over a spinning sphere, and the "jet stream"
of earth will always generate eddy currents, just as in a river. If the
eddies are intense enough we will see tornadoes, as we always do, but in
cases where there are *crossed electric and magnetic fields*, then there
can be more than tornadoes- to wit: hurricanes.
Whence the crossed fields, you may ask?
The electric field is generated by triboelectic forces of wind with lots
of entrained salt water vapor. Over land, tornadoes cannot develop this
same degree of triboelctric charge since the air is too dry and devoid
of ionic salt-based charge.
The magnetic field is, of course, the magnetic field of earth. This
field in recent years has diminished rapdily, and many observers are
predicting an actual pole reversal (long about AD 2012),
Although the commonly held assumption about the genesis of hurricanes is
that they form over warm water, and are powered by this heat source,
that may be an incomplete accounting of the situation ... as it is also
true that they form over areas where the magnetic fields lines of earth
are closest to being horizontal to the plane of the ocean surface. And
ergo: the magnetic field is crossed wrt to triboelectric electric
fields. That is unavoidable since near the equator is where you find
both the hot water and the horizontal field line, but it does not
diminish the fact that "both" of these inputs must be there for the
hurricane to derive extra energy (from the crossed-field mechanism which
is the original subject of this thread).
The "proof" mentioned above is this year's 2007 hurricane season, which
surprised everyone in its meekness.
This had been the hottest summer on record, so naturally many violent
hurricanes were expected. There were just 5 moderate hurricanes in a
season where the "experts" had predicted 9-10 with some very strong ones.
Why do I claim that this is proof of anything? Well it isn't real proof
of course, but given that the other overriding factor of Planet Earth's
background dynamic (and changing) properties - the rapidly diminishing
magnetic field may be involved as a negating-force (to the hot oceans)
