Food banks are stocked with non-perishable food items donated by individuals
and businesses. Food bank collection bins use to be a rare sight in Canada,
but now you see them in most supermarkets year round.

Can anyone tell me what these food banks actually are for? In England there
are "soup kitchens" but these are solely for the "down and outs" and the
homeless. These banks sound like they are used by lots of ordinary people...
